Limerick Printmakers Workshop at Ballyhoura Apple Farm As part of the Creative Places Kilfinane – Research and Development Award project, two free taster printmaking workshops were delivered by Limerick Printmakers at the Ballyhoura Apple Farm on May 31st — one for children and one for adults. Facilitated by Sibéal and Caoilfhinn from Limerick Printmakers, these sessions provided a hands-on introduction to different printmaking techniques, including monoprint, chincole, and etching, and were open to participants from Kilfinane and the surrounding areas. Children’s Workshop The children’s workshop was fully booked, and the young people of Kilfinane and its hinterlands created beautiful prints as they began learning the printmaking process. The session encouraged collaboration and creativity, with the group co-creating a larger print together. This group artwork was discussed towards the end of the session, and the children expressed pride in what they had achieved together. The Limerick Printmakers team also introduced an accessible at-home technique using wooden spoons in place of a printing press, allowing the children to continue experimenting with printmaking in their own time. CO-CREATED PIECE - Children’s Workshop Adults’ Workshop The adults’ session took place in the afternoon and welcomed participants from both Kilfinane and further afield. It began with a tutorial from the LP team, demonstrating the printmaking process step by step. Attendees sketched their ideas, carved them into acetate plates, and created prints based on the theme of a happy place. With two hours for each workshop, participants had time to learn, create, and enjoy the experience in a supportive and creative environment. Ballyhoura Apple Farm kindly provided complimentary samples of their refreshing apple juice range, which were enjoyed by all. Throughout the day, the workshops fostered a sense of community, creativity, and curiosity. Participants left with a greater appreciation of printmaking and the inspiration to continue exploring their creative sides.
