On Saturday, 13th September, Creative Places Kilfinane was delighted to welcome award-winning artist and illustrator Celina Buckley to Teach na Cille for a day of hands-on creativity and artistic exploration.

The workshops were part of the Creative Places Kilfinane project, which continues to offer opportunities for local people to engage with the arts, develop new skills, and connect through creative experiences.

Children’s Workshop – Collage a Landscape (Ages 7–12)

The morning session invited children aged 7–12 to take part in a collage-based landscape workshop, exploring techniques in mixed media and visual storytelling.

The young artists, all local to Kilfinane, created imaginative landscapes - some inspired by rural scenes, others by urban life - each featuring a character of their own creation. Celina guided the group through the process of combining collage and storytelling, encouraging them to think about how their imaginary worlds could come to life through art.

Feedback from participants was extremely positive, with many children expressing how much they enjoyed the workshop and how they would love to see more creative opportunities like this in Kilfinane.

Adults Workshop – Pen & Ink Illustration

The afternoon session welcomed adults of all artistic abilities to explore the art of pen and ink illustration. Celina introduced participants to her own creative process and guided them step-by-step through drawing techniques focused on tone, texture, and composition.

Using a variety of materials, each participant produced a unique black-and-white illustration, gaining confidence and skills along the way.

Participants shared that they found the workshop relaxing, inspiring, and highly enjoyable, with many expressing interest in attending a series of follow-up sessions to continue developing their creative practice.
