iCEAR - Integrated Circular Economy Action plans for Rural areas

The iCEAR project aims at improving regional and local policies fostering circular economy (CE) in rural areas through supporting bio-based value chains in rural areas.

The iCEAR project brings together 13 partners from 9 European countries—including regional development agencies, municipalities, and policy organisations, working together to make the circular economy more effective and integrated across local, regional, and national levels.

While circular economy is widely recognised for its potential to improve resource efficiency and reduce waste, policies to support it often lack coordination. iCEAR addresses this by focusing on:

  • Improving access to knowledge and information about CE

  • Building networks and coordinating CE-related activities

  • Developing and aligning strategic approaches across regions

  • Supporting innovative interventions in rural areas

  • Fostering a culture of innovation and awareness around CE

Through this work, the project aims to improve 8 key policy instruments, enabling more coherent, integrated approaches to CE that create jobs, protect the environment, and enhance rural livelihoods.

What will this project change?

The iCEAR project seeks to improve political instruments for circular economy by addressing the coordination and integration of policies at different levels of governance. The ultimate goal is for partners to refine and adapt their own political programs so that policies across different levels can fit together seamlessly, creating a cohesive framework for promoting circular economy..
