Farm Forward: Connecting Generations and Farming for the Future Supporting farm families with succession and future planning across the Ballyhoura Region Farm Forward is an innovative European Innovation Partnership (EIP) initiative supporting farmers and farming families across the Ballyhoura region at every stage of the farming lifecycle. The programme is built around three interconnected strands, designed to support generational renewal, strengthen farm sustainability, and enhance farmer health and wellbeing. Through a holistic and farmer-centred approach, Farm Forward aims to support not only the future of farming, but also the people and communities at the heart of rural life. Farm Forward recognises that farming today involves far more than food production alone. Farmers face increasing challenges and opportunities around succession planning, diversification, sustainability, wellbeing, and long-term resilience. This programme has been developed to provide practical supports, trusted guidance, and community-led solutions that help farmers navigate change with confidence. The programme is delivered through three key strands: Supporting Farm Succession & Generational Renewal Supporting farm families through succession planning, generational transition, and long-term farm sustainability. This strand provides confidential wraparound support to help farmers and their families navigate the often complex emotional, financial, and practical aspects of passing the farm to the next generation. Find Out More Investing in Sustainable Farm Futures Supporting innovation, resilience, and sustainable rural livelihoods. This strand empowers farmers to explore new opportunities, implement innovative ideas, and strengthen the environmental, social, and economic sustainability of their farms through farmer-led projects, diversification supports, and peer learning opportunities. Find Out More Promoting Farmer Health & Wellbeing Supporting the people behind the farm. Through a targeted social prescribing approach, this strand focuses on improving farmer wellbeing, reducing isolation, strengthening social connectedness, and supporting farmers through important life transitions such as succession and retirement. Find Out More Together, these three strands create a connected support system for farmers and farming families across Ballyhoura — ensuring that: Farms are successfully passed to the next generation Rural livelihoods are strengthened and future-proofed Innovation and sustainability are supported at farm level Farmers are supported as individuals, not just producers Rural communities remain resilient, connected, and thriving Farm Forward is about connecting generations, sustaining rural communities, and shaping a resilient future for Irish farming.
