Become a Biodiversity Champion – Join Ballyhoura Mini Forest Training Programme! Ballyhoura Development is delighted to launch a brand-new Community Forest and Citizen Science Programme, funded through the LEADER programme. This initiative will support local groups in North Cork to learn, plant, and grow their very own mini forests - small but powerful pockets of woodland that boost biodiversity, enhance climate resilience, and strengthen community connection to nature. We are now inviting five community groups to take part in this exciting training programme. If selected, your group will receive hands-on support, expert-led workshops, and a step-by-step process to help you plan, plant, and care for a thriving mini forest in your own area. This is more than just planting trees - it's about building knowledge, pride of place, and long-term environmental stewardship that will benefit generations to come. What’s Involved? Each participating community will host five interactive workshops, delivered through a blend of classroom learning and practical fieldwork: Tree Ecology & Urban Forests (classroom)Understand the role of native trees, how small forests function, and their value for wildlife and climate. Site Selection Consultation (fieldwork)Work with experts to assess and select the most suitable location for your mini forest.
