Mental Health Initiative for the Traveller Community - October 2024 In October 2024, the East Limerick Traveller Healthcare Project undertook several initiatives to promote awareness of mental health supports available to the community. On October 15th, a special evening Mass for Traveller Mental Health was celebrated by Fr. O'Donnell and Canon O'Shea at Kilmallock Church. During the Mass, children from the community brought gifts to the altar, symbolising the struggles, resilience, and strength of the Traveller Community. The ceremony was followed by refreshments at the Pastoral Centre, where mental health flyers and resources were shared with attendees. Throughout October, the East Limerick Primary Healthcare Project delivered mental health support information directly to households in East Limerick. Each family received a specially printed magnet with key support phone numbers, along with a flyer offering guidance on how to help someone struggling with their mental health. Additionally, the team created a short social media video to encourage open conversations about mental health, aiming to break the stigma and foster greater understanding within the community.
