On March 11th, 2025, the East Limerick Primary Healthcare Project joined fellow Primary Healthcare Projects from across the Midwest for a meaningful and insightful visit to GOSHH (Gender Orientation Sexual Health HIV) headquarters in Limerick City.

This visit was more than just a tour—it was an opportunity to build bridges, share knowledge, and strengthen the support networks available to the Traveller community in Limerick, particularly in the areas of mental health and LGBTQ+ inclusion.

Learning Through Connection

Hosted by the dedicated team at GOSHH, the visit offered participants a chance to:

  • Learn about the wide range of services GOSHH provides to the LGBTQ+ community in Limerick and beyond

  • Meet and engage with GOSHH staff in an open and welcoming environment

  • Enjoy informal conversations over great coffee, fostering a relaxed and respectful space for dialogue

The exchange of knowledge and expertise was both informative and empowering, highlighting the importance of inclusive health services that are accessible to all communities.

Supporting Traveller Mental Health

For members of the Traveller community, mental health challenges can often be compounded by stigma, isolation, and a lack of culturally appropriate services. This is especially true for Travellers who may be exploring or questioning their sexual orientation or gender identity.

The visit to GOSHH underscored a vital message: there are free, confidential supports available, and no one has to face these challenges alone.

By building awareness of GOSHH’s services, the East Limerick Primary Healthcare Project is helping to ensure that Travellers in our region know where to turn for support—whether it's for sexual health, identity, or mental wellbeing.
